Why NOVA IDD Group Genius?
We bring together ALL members of the Northern Virginia (NOVA) Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) community to identify and address gaps in services/resources. By combining the experiences of our families with the expertise of our service providers we create an innovative problem-solving environment.
Here are a few of the things you’ll be able to do as a member of NOVA IDD Group Genius:
- You have the opportunity to learn from shared experiences and relevant professionals in the IDD field. We sponsor events like virtual resource fairs.
- You can form supportive connections with other members in the NOVA IDD community.

Gap #1. Our families are not getting the information they need to make decisions
Challenge. Our special needs information environment is often stove-piped and siloed. We frequently hear in frustration from our families "we don't know what we don't know". We often don't find out about key information sources, like annual in-person resource fairs, or cannot attend them due to childcare or work limitations. And when we can get there, not all service providers are present. Lastly, the information some of us do get can be so overwhelming that we don't know where to start.
"Wouldn't it be great if Northern Virginia's (NOVA) families who are managing Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) could go to ONE on-line location where they could get information by meeting and talking with service providers and experts and by sharing what they have learned with others who are on the same journey?"
